UPDATE: Our consultation period has now closed. Thank you for your participation! Please wait for further updates.

HWDSB is currently in the process of developing its elementary and secondary calendars for the 2026-2027 school year. We are seeking input from parents/guardians, staff, and community members on key dates included in the draft Elementary and Secondary calendars.

The Ministry of Education requires school boards to develop a school year calendar that includes 194 instructional days between September 1 and June 30. Of those 194 days, up to seven (7) are required to be Professional Activity (PA) Days and up to 10 can be designated as examination days for secondary schools.

For the 2026-2027 calendar, two PA days will occur before the start of classes to meet this requirement. Because Labour Day falls on September 7, 2026, only 192 instructional days are available between September 8 and June 30. Therefore, two PA days must be scheduled before September 8, 2026.

We know that dates in the proposed school year calendar bring up other considerations for staff and families such as childcare, work schedules, religious and creed days of significance, and more. HWDSB is committed to affirming and valuing equally the faith diversity in our schools, and accordingly has put in place the Religious Accommodation Procedure.

Please provide your feedback to us by January 15, 2026.

Based on interest-holder input, the calendar will then be finalized by the Board of Trustees and submitted for approval to the Ministry of Education.

Ways to Engage

  • Survey - Provide feedback on key dates (e.g., start and end dates, PA days, exam days) in the proposed school year calendars for next year.
  • Share your Ideas - Please add your input below to help inform how we structure our calendar in future years.
