How did HWDSB come up with the temporary Student Dress Guidelines on the Board website?

HWDSB Trustees referenced TDSB guidelines last October because TDSB addressed equity in their guidelines and tried to make them representative of the diverse population of students. There was an immediate need in HWDSB to provide something for schools to use while we took the time to consult with students, families, community and staff. Temporary Student Dress Guidelines were drafted which drew on TDSB's guidelines.

How will HWDSB ensure that the Student Dress Guidelines work for all students?

We are consulting and making a commitment to use an Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression lens to draft guidelines that really do support all students to feel free to express themselves and feel safe and comfortable doing so. Once implemented, we will check in to see how it is working and adjust or provide more information and support if needed. Our goal is to have Student Dress Guidelines that everyone understands and that are implemented consistently across all schools.

How will the new Student Dress Guidelines be rolled out to schools?

HWDSB will provide training for staff. Communication and supports will be given to students and families and we'll make sure they have the information they need to get questions answered.
