What is an accommodation strategy?

An accommodation strategy is a temporary, short-term solution to address enrolment pressures at one school. This solution involves assigning students from a particular area to another school to assist with the enrolment pressures. HWDSB will communicate the accommodation strategy using the boundary review process.

More information about accommodations and boundary reviews (including the Policy and Procedure) can be found here: Boundary Reviews | Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (hwdsb.on.ca)

Flamborough Centre/Mary Hopkins Accommodation Strategy

This review will consider the Flamborough Centre Elementary School and Mary Hopkins Elementary School boundaries. Mary Hopkins currently has a high enrolment and it's anticipated that enrolment will increase due to a large residential development in east Waterdown (Mountainview Heights development), south of Highway 5. HWDSB has applied to the Ministry of Education for the construction of a new school and is awaiting approval (decision anticipated early 2024). Until a new school is constructed, staff recommend an accommodation strategy between Flamborough Centre and Mary Hopkins to better balance enrolments. This will involve redirecting new students in the English-language program from the development south of Highway 5 to attend Flamborough Centre, beginning in the 2024-25 school year.
